Tom Garrett serves in the Virginia House of Delegates representing the great people of the 56th District. Delegate Tom Garrett earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond. After the University of Richmond, Tom Garrett became an artillery officer in the United States Army. Achieving the rank of Captain, Tom led soldiers overseas—most notably while deployed in Bosnia.

Upon returning to the States, Tom earned his J.D. from the University of Richmond and quickly became an Assistant Attorney General for Virginia.

In 2016, Tom was elected to represent Virginia’s 5th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. While in Congress, Tom served on the Foreign Affairs Committee, Homeland Security Committee, Education and Workforce Committee. Derrick’s journey of public service started when he joined the Navy at the age of 18 and served for 26 years, retiring as a Navy SEAL Senior Chief with 5 combat deployments and several others to troubled areas in the world. His first combat deployment was to Bosnia Herzegovina immediately following the signing of the Dayton Accords. Derrick Van Orden continued his service with multiple combat tours to Afghanistan and Iraq. Additionally, he served in the Horn of Africa, Asia, Europe, and South and Central America. During his tour in Europe in 2012, under the Obama administration, he was responsible for planning Special Operations contingency operations for the European Continent.

Congressman Van Orden understands the significance of freedom and the tremendous cost paid to protect America and its citizens. He lost close colleagues ⏤the tragic killing of his former teammate Ty Woods and fellow SEAL Glen Doherty during the terrorist attack on the embassy annex in Benghazi, Libya.

On March 19, 2018, Governor Phil Bryant signed the Gestational Age Act (H.B. 1510) into law. This bill was introduced by Mississippi Representative Becky Currie, a registered nurse. The bill received bipartisan support in both chambers of the legislature.

Before becoming the state’s chief executive, Phil Bryant was lieutenant governor, state auditor and represented his legislative district in the Mississippi House of Representatives.
