The conversation on America's Roundtable focuses on AG Jason Miyares's leadership in fighting opioids, reducing overdose deaths and reducing violence, thus making communities in Virginia safer. The data released by Virginia Department of Health Office of the Chief Medical Examiner show fentanyl-related overdose deaths in Virginia declined 44 percent year-over-year and are down over 46 percent from its peak in 2021. Virginia led the nation in annual percentage declines in drug overdose deaths in 2024.  

The recent celebration of America's Independence Day on July 4th 2025, reminds us of America Founding Fathers' ingenuity in creating America's Founding Documents: The Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Virginia played a historic role in the founding of the American Republic - 249 years ago. Bio | Jason S. Miyares

Attorney General Jason Miyares' story doesn't start in Virginia Beach, Virginia, but in Havana, Cuba when his mother, Miriam Miyares, fled communist Cuba, penniless and homeless. She taught Jason a love for freedom, democracy, and that America is indeed the “last best hope on earth.” A product of Virginia public schools, Jason graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from James Madison University and received his J.D. from the College of William and Mary School of Law.

He previously served as a prosecutor in the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, where he worked alongside law enforcement to keep violent criminals off our streets and our communities safe.

In 2015, almost fifty years to the day that she fled Cuba, Miriam was able to vote for her son Jason Miyares to represent her in the oldest democracy in the Western Hemisphere, the Virginia House of Delegates. While representing Virginia Beach, Jason was recognized as “Legislator of the Year” in both 2018 and 2019 from the College Affordability and Public Trust for his work on transparency and affordability in higher education, as well as by the Hampton Roads Military Officers Association of America in 2018. He was also recognized in 2019 by the Safe House Project for his work combatting human trafficking, an issue that his administration is prioritizing.

Jason Miyares is the first Cuban American elected to the General Assembly, the first Hispanic elected statewide in Virginia, and the first son of an immigrant ever elected to be Attorney General. He is passionate about preserving the American Miracle for the next generation of Virginians.

Retired Judge and former Chief Judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals Henry W. Saad serves as special counsel in Plunkett Cooney's Appellate Law Practice Group.

In 1994, former Gov. John Engler appointed Saad to the Michigan Court of Appeals, a role he held for 23 years, including a term as Chief Judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals. During his tenure, Judge Saad served on the Governor's Task Force for Abused Children, and he also served as the Chair of the appellate court's Education Committee.

Judge Saad was nominated to the federal district court by President George H.W. Bush and to the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Court by President George W. Bush. Judge Saad retired from the appellate court in 2017.

Chris Mitchell covered the historic decision by President Trump to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem, and saw the opening of Saudi Arabia to the world. In 2011, CBN News began the award-winning program, Jerusalem Dateline, hosted by Chris Mitchell and translated into multiple languages.

Chris Mitchell first began reporting on the Middle East in the mid-1990s. Chris repeatedly traveled there to report on the religious and political issues facing Israel and the surrounding Arab states.

Chris moved to Jerusalem in August 2000 to establish the CBN News Bureau. Our conversation focuses on America's energy crisis impacting families across the nation, President Joe Biden's policies and OPEC+'s decision to drastically cut production by 2 million barrels of oil per day. Congressman Mike Bost represent the 12 counties of Illinois’ 12th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Sworn into office on January 6, 2015, Mike is continuing the fight for our Southern Illinois’ values in Washington – a fight he began in U.S. military, then as a first responder, a local job creator, and a state representative.

In the 117th Congress, Rep. Bost serves on two key committees: Veterans’ Affairs, and Transportation & Infrastructure. On the Veterans' Affairs Committee he serves as the Ranking Member, the top Republican on the Committee.
Prior to his election to Congress, Rep. Bost served for two decades in the Illinois House of Representatives, rising to the leadership position of House Republican Caucus Chair.

Rep. Bost also served as a firefighter for the Murphysboro Fire Department. He graduated from the University of Illinois' Certified Firefighter II Academy in 1993 and continued to serve the Murphysboro Fire Department during his six terms as state representative. Prior to that, Rep. Bost worked for 13 years at Bost Trucking Service, first as a driver and then for 10 years as a truck manager.

Rep. Bost is a lifelong resident of Murphysboro. He graduated from Murphysboro High School in 1979. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps serving his country from 1979 to 1982. He was trained as an electronic specialist and radar repairman and received an honorable discharge as a Corporal E-4.

In addition to his duties as a Member of Congress, Rep. Bost is very active in his church and community. Rep. Bost and his wife, Tracy, own and operate a small business – the White House Salon – in Murphysboro.

Former US Senator Jim DeMint | Chairman, Conservative Partnership Institute

Jim DeMint has fought tirelessly for freedom, prosperity, and traditional American values against the Washington swamp for over two decades. Today, he leads and trains a new generation of conservative warriors as Chairman of the Conservative Partnership Institute.

DeMint represented South Carolina in the U.S. House (1999-2005) and U.S. Senate (2005-2013). Known for policy innovation, he authored leading conservative reforms to health care, education, taxes, and entitlements. DeMint garnered national acclaim from conservatives for leading efforts to ban congressional earmarks, the source of billions of dollars of wasteful spending for decades which had led to corruption and widespread abuse. He also successfully led the fight to stop the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill in 2007. DeMint is also the Founder of the Senate Conservatives Fund, which played a major role in the election of many of the Senate’s leading conservatives like Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Tom Cotton.

Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows | Senior Partner, Conservative Partnership Institute

President Trump called Mark Meadows “the guy who never stops working.”

Mark’s work is that of a true public servant. From his days in the U.S. House of Representatives to his time as President Trump’s chief of staff to his current role as CPI’s Senior Partner, Mark has worked tirelessly to shift the focus from the desires of Washington politicians to the needs of the American people.

Working with the House Freedom Caucus, which he co-founded in 2015, he helped strip key provisions of Obamacare as it crushed the American people with sky-high premiums and fewer healthcare choices. He helped pass the historic tax cuts of 2017. And he changed the dynamic of the Republican conference and helped oust then-House Speaker John Boehner. Mark and his fellow Freedom Caucus members would go on to successfully defend President Trump from the bogus Russia collusion attacks and impeachment.

By the time he became chief of staff in 2020, Mark had already spent countless hours working with the 45th president to give the American people a seat at the table.

Mark was President Trump’s gatekeeper and top advisor, steering the White House through one of the most tumultuous years in American history, as COVID-19 lockdowns, race riots, and other assertions of leftist power ripped through the country.

According to published reports, "A federal magistrate judge has given the Department of Justice one week to provide a redacted copy of the affidavit used to justify the unprecedented FBI search of former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence, saying that he believes the affidavit should be partially released. U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart ruled the DOJ must turn over the redacted version by next Thursday at noon."

A member of the firm's Bloomfield Hills office, Judge Saad leverages his years of experience and legal counsel to the members of the appellate group who represent clients in litigation across the country. He also executes day-to-day responsibilities for a variety of multi-million dollar cases focused on complex business litigation in areas ranging from automotive to antitrust to complex contract and intellectual property.

During his over 40-year legal career, Judge Saad’s experience includes 20 years in private practice where he built a national reputation as a leading attorney specializing in complex drug liability litigation, media, libel law, labor and employment law and school law. This includes handling related appeals that resulted in nearly 20 published opinions. During his career as a lawyer and his tenure on the Michigan Court of Appeals, Judge Saad taught evidence, ethics and labor law for over 40 years as an adjunct professor at Wayne State University Law School and University of Detroit Mercy Law School.

In 1994, former Gov. John Engler appointed Saad to the Michigan Court of Appeals, a role he held for 23 years, including a term as Chief Judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals. During his tenure, Judge Saad served on the Governor's Task Force for Abused Children, and he also served as the Chair of the appellate court's Education Committee. Judge Saad was nominated to the federal district court by President George H.W. Bush and to the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Court by President George W. Bush. Judge Saad retired from the appellate court in 2017.

Under the leadership of Ambassador Friedman, the United States made unprecedented diplomatic advances, including moving U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights and, of course, brokering the Abraham Accords.

Human history is full of the stories of peasants, subjects, and tribes. Yet the concept of the “citizen” is historically rare—and was among America’s most valued ideals for over two centuries. But without shock treatment, warns historian Victor Davis Hanson, American citizenship as we have known it may soon vanish.

Hanson is the author of hundreds of articles, book reviews, scholarly papers, and newspaper editorials on matters ranging from ancient Greek, agrarian and military history to foreign affairs, domestic politics, and contemporary culture. He has written or edited 24 books. His latest books, The Case for Trump (released on March 5, 2019) and The Second World Wars (October 2017), a history of World War II, were both published by Basic Books.

Hanson was educated at the University of California, Santa Cruz (BA, Classics, 1975, ‘highest honors’ Classics, ‘college honors’, Cowell College), the College Year in Athens (Athens, Raphael Demos Fellow, 1973-4), the American School of Classical Studies, Athens (regular member, 1978-79) and received his Ph.D. in Classics from Stanford University in 1980, with special emphases in the classical authors Thucydides and Aristophanes.

In 1974, Foster and Lynn Friess launched Friess Associates. The firm’s flagship, the Brandywine Fund, averaged 20 percent annual gains in the 1990s, causing Forbes magazine to name it one of the decade’s top mutual funds. Business Week heralded him as the “longest surviving successful growth stock picker” and CNBC’s Ron Insana dubbed him one of the “century’s great investors.”

Among their many philanthropic commitments, Foster and Lynn, through the Friess Family Foundation, support mobile medical vans in needy U.S. neighborhoods, provide clean drinking water in Malawi, Africa, and assist in natural disaster relief efforts around the world. Foster received the Muhamad Ali Humanitarian Award and Childhelp’s Spirit of the Children Award, among other honors.

Foster Friess was born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin in 1940 and a first-generation college graduate. His mother dropped out of school in the eighth grade to pick cotton in order to save the family farm in Texas. His father dealt cattle and horses.

His investment strategy, based on the premise that —individual-company fundamentals drive stock prices, generated strong results for the portfolios he managed on behalf of institutions and high-net-worth individuals. The Department of Homeland Security in a new report stated: The Department of Homeland Security in a new report stated: "There will be 117,000 unaccompanied child migrants crossing the border this year. A large number of them are teenagers. Just last month, some 6,000 migrants aged 16 and 17 were caught." In addition to the concerns about human trafficking, with cartels now charging $5,000 to $10,000 per person to bring illegal immigrants to the US, drug smuggling, and specifically the fentanyl supply coming through the Southern border has increased significantly. Governor Bryant also draws from his early experiences as a law enforcement officer and an undercover officer in America's drug war and communicates about fentanyl which is 50 times more potent than heroin.

Boyles, the adjutant general of Mississippi and the United States Customs and Border Protection on a dangerous night mission as illegal immigrants led by "coyotes" from an organized crime network were apprehended. The Customs and Border Protection recently reported: "Laredo Sector Border Patrol has encountered a dangerous trend of weapons being encountered during human smuggling events. Within 24 hours, three weapons were seized in three separate events involving human smuggling."

Judge Henry Saad graduated with honors from Wayne State University Business School, and Wayne State University Law School, maagna cum laude. Judge Saad served as an adjunct law professor at both Wayne State University Law School and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

In a career that spans more than 40 years, Saad’s experience includes 20 years at the law firm of Dickinson Wright, where he served as partner.In 1994, former Governor Engler appointed Saad to the Michigan Court of Appeals, a role he held for 23 years, including a term as chief judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Saad was nominated for federal appointments by both President H.W. Bush and President George W. Bush.
