During the 1970s, Dr. Laffer was a consultant to Secretaries of the Treasury George Shultz and William Simon and Chief of Staff and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. He was the first to hold the title of Chief Economist at the Office of Management and Budget under Secretary of the Treasury George Shultz in the early 1970s.

Dr. Laffer was a member of President Reagan’s Economic Policy Advisory Board for both of his two terms (1981-1989). He also advised Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on fiscal policy in the U.K. during the 1980s.

Dr. Laffer’s economic acumen and influence in triggering a world-wide tax-cutting movement in the 1980s have earned him the distinction in many publications as “The Father of Supply-Side Economics.” His Laffer Curve is one of the main theoretical constructs of supply-side economics.

Dr. Laffer was an economic advisor to Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. In 2019, President Trump awarded DR. Laffer with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his contributions in the field of economics.

He has received numerous awards and recognition for his economic work and authored a number of books, including the End of Prosperity: How Higher Taxes Will Doom the Economy—If We Let it Happen, and most recently Return to Prosperity and Trumponomics.

The U.S-Bahrain Free Trade Agreement (FTA) entered into force in 2006, generating additional commercial opportunities for both countries.

Ambassador Al Khalifa is dedicated to strengthening the longstanding friendship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United States to drive the two countries’ shared vision for security, prosperity and friendship. According to Talmudic references, Jews resided in Bahrain since ancient times and Arabic records highlight the co-existence of Arabs and Jews dating back some 1,400 years ago. During the 12 century, Benjamin of Tudela, a medieval Jewish traveler, wrote about Africa, Asia, and Europe, and recounted that Jews were engaged in the local pearl industry.

Bahrain has a population of 1.7 million people, with access to a much larger market within the Gulf Cooperation Council, comprising of estimated over 65 million people, as well as to the Arab League, which totals 407 million people of its member countries, mostly living in the Middle East and Northern Africa.

Human history is full of the stories of peasants, subjects, and tribes. Yet the concept of the “citizen” is historically rare—and was among America’s most valued ideals for over two centuries.
