Join America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/) radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with Attorney General Jason Miyares, Commonwealth of Virginia.
The conversation on America's Roundtable focuses on AG Jason Miyares's leadership in fighting opioids, reducing overdose deaths and reducing violence, thus making communities in Virginia safer. The data released by Virginia Department of Health Office of the Chief Medical Examiner show fentanyl-related overdose deaths in Virginia declined 44 percent year-over-year and are down over 46 percent from its peak in 2021. Virginia led the nation in annual percentage declines in drug overdose deaths in 2024.
The recent celebration of America's Independence Day on July 4th 2025, reminds us of America Founding Fathers' ingenuity in creating America's Founding Documents: The Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Virginia played a historic role in the founding of the American Republic - 249 years ago. America's Founding Fathers George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, George Mason, James Monroe, Patrick Henry and John Marshall were all Virginians.
The timely discussion elevates the importance of combating anti-Semitism, and advancing principled policies based on the rule of law as well as affirming the significance of peace through strength.
Bio | Jason S. Miyares (https://jasonmiyares.com/about/)
Attorney General Jason Miyares' story doesn't start in Virginia Beach, Virginia, but in Havana, Cuba when his mother, Miriam Miyares, fled communist Cuba, penniless and homeless. She taught Jason a love for freedom, democracy, and that America is indeed the “last best hope on earth.” A product of Virginia public schools, Jason graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from James Madison University and received his J.D. from the College of William and Mary School of Law.
He previously served as a prosecutor in the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, where he worked alongside law enforcement to keep violent criminals off our streets and our communities safe.
In 2015, almost fifty years to the day that she fled Cuba, Miriam was able to vote for her son Jason Miyares to represent her in the oldest democracy in the Western Hemisphere, the Virginia House of Delegates. While representing Virginia Beach, Jason was recognized as “Legislator of the Year” in both 2018 and 2019 from the College Affordability and Public Trust for his work on transparency and affordability in higher education, as well as by the Hampton Roads Military Officers Association of America in 2018. He was also recognized in 2019 by the Safe House Project for his work combatting human trafficking, an issue that his administration is prioritizing.
Jason Miyares is the first Cuban American elected to the General Assembly, the first Hispanic elected statewide in Virginia, and the first son of an immigrant ever elected to be Attorney General. He is passionate about preserving the American Miracle for the next generation of Virginians.

Bio | Jason S. Miyares

Join America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/) radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat who delivered a eulogy at President Jimmy Carter's funeral at the Washington National Cathedral. Ambassador Eizenstat shares about Carter’s domestic and international successes including the Camp David Accords and how the former president's sincere words and developed personal relationship made an impact to key principals when the talks were about to fail.
Carter's tireless efforts led the foundational cornerstone for treaties with Israel's Arab neighbors including Jordan and later through the Trump Administration's Abraham Accords.
Ambassador Eizenstat also shares about his personal friendship with the former president. He was at Jimmy Carter’s side from his political rise in Georgia through four years in the White House, where he served as Chief Domestic Policy Adviser. He was directly involved in all domestic and economic decisions as well as in many foreign policy ones. The conversation on America's Roundtable also brings to the forefront President Carter's bold economic reforms and how he came to be called the "Champion of Deregulation" by former Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX), a fiscal conservative leader.
In an op-ed piece in The Wall Street Journal, Senator Gramm stated, " The Carter administration began oil-price deregulation using its regulatory powers and set in place the gradual deregulation of natural-gas prices with the 1978 Natural Gas Policy Act. And while the deregulation of the communications industry was driven by technological change, court decisions, regulatory action and finally legislation, the Carter regulatory reform through the Federal Communications Commission made competition the driving force in the development of policy. Energy deregulation, championed by Mr. Carter and then by Ronald Reagan, produced abundant oil and gas supplies."
Brief bio:
During a decade and a half of public service in six U.S. administrations, Ambassador Eizenstat has held a number of key senior positions, including Chief White House Domestic Policy Adviser to President Jimmy Carter (1977-1981); U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, Under Secretary of State for Economic, Business and Agricultural Affairs, and Deputy Secretary of the Treasury in the Clinton Administration (1993-2001).
His recommendation to President Carter to create the Presidential Commission on the Holocaust headed by Elie Wiesel led directly to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, for which he is recognized as a key founder. Ambassador Eizenstat is an author of "President Carter: The White House Years" and "The Art of Diplomacy"
During the Trump administration, he was appointed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as Expert Adviser to the State Department on Holocaust-Era Issues (2018-2021).
In the Biden administration, serving as Special Adviser to Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Holocaust Issues, he played a major role in the negotiation of the Best Practices for the Washington Principles on Nazi-Confiscated Art (2024), now supported by 25 countries.
He was appointed by President Biden as Chairman of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Council (2022-present). Since 2009, he has served as pro bono Special Negotiator for the Jewish Claims Conference in negotiations with the German government, obtaining billions of dollars of benefits for poor Holocaust survivors, for home care, social and medical services, enhanced pensions, hardship payments, child survivor and Kindertransport survivors, special supplemental payments for the poorest of the poor, and worldwide educational benefits.

Join America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/) radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with Attorney General Jason Miyares, Commonwealth of Virginia. The conversation focuses on his recent visit to the US southern border and the high level briefing received by officials regarding increased security risks. Moreover, recent reports from Latin American governments have raised the alarms of terrorists coming to the region.
Transnational organized crime networks have taken advantage of America's porous borders and smuggled dangerous drugs into our nation. According to DEA, "Mexico and China are the primary source countries for fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances trafficked directly into the United States."
Fentanyl has taken the lives of 74,702 Americans in 2023 alone.
A published report stated:
Panamanian authorities have reported that members of Hezbollah, one of the most influential paramilitary groups in the Middle East, have been detected crossing the Darién jungle. Authorities also noted that these individuals are linked to groups involved in migrant smuggling. Costa Rica’s Minister of Security, Mario Zamora, explained that the recent rise in migration has heightened alerts for individuals connected to terrorism. Other cases of individuals with links to terrorism, however, have been recorded. “Costa Rica has detained three individuals with international terrorism alerts: two Somalis linked to a little-known group and an Egyptian connected to Al Qaeda. Currently, we have a person from Kazakhstan, linked to ISIS, in custody. This migratory flow has brought individuals with a history of terrorism,” Zamora stated.
The conversation on America's Roundtable also focuses on AG Jason Miyares's journey to Israel after the October 7, 2024 terrorist attacks and the plight of Jewish American students on US campuses. AG Miyares raised concerns about American hostages still held captive in Gaza and reflected on the murder of six hostages including Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who grew up in Richmond, Virginia.
The timely discussion elevates the importance of advancing principled policies based on the rule of law and affirming the significance of peace through strength.

Join America's Roundtable radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with Attorney General Jason Miyares, Commonwealth of Virginia.

Join America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/) radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with the Honorable Stuart E. Eizenstat, Chair of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.
The conversation with Ambassador Eizenstat focuses on the rise of anti-Semitism in America, the significance of US leadership on the world stage as isolationism grows from within, combined with an emboldened axis of resistance led by Iran and its proxies, including China and Russia, undermining the West's rule of law civilization.
The discussion highlights Ambassador Eizenstat's soon to be released book — “The Art of Diplomacy: How American Negotiators Reached Historic Agreements That Changed the World.” The book's foreword was written by Henry A. Kissinger and a preface presented by James A. Baker III.
We cover the importance of America's leadership on the vital fronts of trade, peace and security. Ambassador Eizenstat speaks about the on-going efforts to engage European governments to restitute Jewish property confiscated during WWII and compensate Holocaust victims and their descendants.
According to the Associated Press (https://www.pbs.org/newshour/world/one-third-of-israeli-holocaust-survivors-live-in-poverty-advocates-say): "Yet among Israel’s estimated 165,000 survivors, roughly one in three lives in poverty, according to a survivors’ advocacy group."
An Axis report states (https://www.axios.com/2024/01/24/holocaust-survivors-worldwide-study-israel-us):
Details: About 245,000 Holocaust survivors are living across more than 90 countries, according to a report released Tuesday by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference).
The vast majority (95%) are child survivors born between 1928 and 1946.
The median age of survivors is 86, and around 61% are women.
Roughly half of the survivors live in Israel, while 16% reside in the United States, the country with the second largest percentage, the study found.
Around a third of the survivors in the U.S. are living in poverty, Greg Schneider, executive vice president of the Claims Conference, tells Axios.
Zoom in: 40% of survivors worldwide access or have accessed social welfare services from over 300 agencies that receive grants administered by the Claims Conference.
Services include home care, food, medicine and transportation, among others.

Join America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/) radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with Herzl Makov, president, The Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem.
Israel at War | Focusing on the terrorist attacks carried out by Iran-backed Hamas killing over 1,300 Israelis including 27 Americans. Over 3,000 Israelis have been wounded, and 150 Israeli hostages including some 20 Americans have been taken from Israel by Hamas into Gaza.
Mr. Makov provides an update on the realities on the ground, the challenging road ahead, and the significance of the US-Israel partnership in confronting terrorism and instability in the Middle East. The discussion also focuses on Iran, the state sponsor of terrorism and how the rogue nation's ambition in acquiring nuclear weapons may adversely impact the region and the world.
The conversation also highlights the life and legacy of Menachem Begin, and the mission being accomplished by the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem (https://www.begincenter.org.il/about-the-center/?lang=en).
Learn more about The Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem:
https://www.begincenter.org.il/about-the-center/?lang=en
Herzl Makov is CEO of the Menachem Begin Heritage Center, a national center to commemorate (https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/culture/new-documentary-explores-the-life-and-career-of-menachem-begin-669434) Israel’s sixth prime minister. Under his leadership, the Center has grown to become one of leaders in Zionist and democratic education led by the values of Menachem Begin, serving the thousands of young people and soldiers who participate in its programs every year.
Serving as a fighter pilot in the Israeli Air Force, obtaining the rank of major, his squadron participated in the IAF’s bombing of Osirak (https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/israels-raid-on-osirak-40-years-on-669985), Iraq’s nuclear reactor, in 1981 – under the orders of Menachem Begin. This decision established what was called “the Begin Doctrine” – no country with the declared aim of destroying Israel would be permitted to acquire the means to do so.

About Freedom House | History (https://freedomhouse.org/about-us/our-history)
Freedom House is the oldest American organization devoted to the support and defense of democracy around the world. It was formally established in New York in 1941 to promote American involvement in World War II and the fight against fascism.
From the beginning, Freedom House was notable for its bipartisan support. Freedom House's founders were prominent and influential leaders from the fields of business and labor, journalism, academia, and government. A central figure among its early leaders was First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Wendell Willkie, the Republican presidential nominee who ran against President Roosevelt in 1940, was also an ardent supporter and served as honorary co-chair along with Mrs. Roosevelt.
Initially, the mission of Freedom House was to counter isolationism, a powerful force promoted by the America First Committee. At the time, ninety percent of American citizens were opposed to involvement in the European war, even as Nazi tanks rolled across the continent and concentration camps began to fill with people. The leaders of Freedom House argued that Hitler posed a grave threat to American security and values.

Join America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/) Radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with Attorney General Jason S. Miyares from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Our conversation focuses on the following topics:
— Attorney General Jason Miyares discusses the creation of Virginia's Antisemitism Task Force and efforts to counter the rise of attacks targeting the Jewish community in America.
— The 25-state lawsuit on new Department of Labor rule allowing asset managers to direct their clients’ retirement money to ESG (Environmental Social Governance) investments.
— Attorney General Jason Miyares' efforts in leading a coalition of 21 states calling on President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to designate drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) under federal law. We learn how this initiative will free up resources to confront the deadly opioid crisis with the seriousness it deserves.
— American exceptionalism and the principled messages from President Ronald Reagan and Abraham Lincoln.
Bio | Jason S. Miyares

Join America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/) Radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy in a conversation with Peter M. Robinson, Murdoch Distinguished Policy Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Host of Uncommon Knowledge (https://www.hoover.org/publications/uncommon-knowledge)™ — Hoover's Video Series Program and Former Special Assistant and Speechwriter to President Ronald Reagan.
Peter Robinson is the Murdoch Distinguished Policy Fellow at the Hoover Institution, where he writes about business and politics, edits Hoover's quarterly journal, the Hoover Digest (https://www.hoover.org/publications/hoover-digest), and hosts Hoover's video series program, Uncommon Knowledge (https://www.hoover.org/publications/uncommon-knowledge)™.
Robinson spent six years in the White House, serving from 1982 to 1983 as chief speechwriter to Vice President George Bush and from 1983 to 1988 as special assistant and speechwriter to President Ronald Reagan. He wrote the historic Berlin Wall address in which President Reagan called on General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall!"
The conversation will begin by focusing on the 33rd anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. On November 9, 1989, five days after a major peaceful protest in East Berlin which gathered half a million people, the communist rulers gave permission for gates along the Berlin Wall to be opened. The fall of Communist Eastern Europe was hastened by the principled leadership of President Ronald Reagan joined by then-UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Pope John Paul II, Germany's Helmut Kohl, Vaclav Havel, leaders within Poland, and other countries in the Soviet block yearning for freedom.
The historic day reminded the world of a speech that was delivered on June 12, 1987 by President Ronald Reagan when he shared these words (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX00QkvK-mQ&feature=youtu.be):
"_Behind me stands a wall that encircles the free sectors of this city, part of a vast system of barriers that divides the entire continent of Europe. . . . Standing before the Brandenburg Gate, every man is a German, separated from his fellow men. Every man is a Berliner, forced to look upon a scar. . . . As long as this gate is closed, as long as this scar of a wall is permitted to stand, it is not the German question alone that remains open, but the question of freedom for all mankind. . . .
General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate.
Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate!
Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!_"
—Ronald Reagan, address at the Brandenburg Gate, June 12, 1987
Topics covered on America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/):
— Reflecting on the 33rd Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
— President Ronald Reagan's principled leadership and his clear articulation of moral clarity based on timeless principles and values.
—Peter Robinson shares the real story behind the speech in Berlin, how the message captured the realities on the ground during the Cold War, and the opposition by advisors opposing Reagan's challenge to Gorbachev.
— The Unfinished Work in advancing freedom and the rule of law in Eastern Europe.
— Brief observations of the US midterm elections and public policies in America.

The historic day reminded the world of a speech that was delivered on June 12, 1987 by President Ronald Reagan when he shared these words:

Topics covered on America's Roundtable:

— Reflecting on the 33rd Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.

— President Ronald Reagan's principled leadership and his clear articulation of moral clarity based on timeless principles and values.

—Peter Robinson shares the real story behind the speech in Berlin, how the message captured the realities on the ground during the Cold War, and the opposition by advisors opposing Reagan's challenge to Gorbachev.

This initiative works to reduce violent crime by maintaining strategic and effective partnerships through the Commonwealth by promoting firearm safety, investing in gang prevention, and supporting community policing in high-crime neighborhoods in order to get the most violent and repeat offenders off our streets."
Bio: Attorney General Jason S. Miyares (https://oag.state.va.us/our-office/about-the-attorney-general)

From the Attorney General's office, "Operation Ceasefire is a proven approach to address violent criminal activity among serious and repeat offenders, which was extremely successful in Richmond from 2004-2008.

Miyares
