The conversation with Congressman Lamborn also focuses on the promise of a new era in the Middle East with the proposed US-Saudi Arabia Economic and Security Alliance which could transform the region and benefit both nations on the economic and trade fronts. Saudi Arabia could become a major hub for trade and tourism and a gateway to over 400 million consumers in Arab countries.

Bio | Congressman Doug Lamborn

In Colorado, Doug was called to public office and served in the Colorado General Assembly from 1995 to 2006, in both the State House and State Senate. During his time in the Colorado Legislature, Doug was elected Senate President Pro-Tem, served as Chairman of the Senate State Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, Chairman of the Senate Republican Caucus, and House Majority Whip.

Doug was then elected to the US House of Representatives in 2006 to represent Colorado's Fifth District. Colorado's Fifth District, based in Colorado Springs, is one of our nation's most military-intensive congressional districts and the home to more than 100,000 veterans who have served our country with distinction and honor. Because of the district's military and veteran concentration, Doug serves as a high-ranking member on the House Armed Services Committee and a former member for ten years of the Veterans Affairs Committee. In these roles, he has protected important national defense funding, programs, and missions and has fought hard for the right of veterans to receive the healthcare they have earned.

Additionally, the Congressman has worked since his first day in office to bring about a dignified and fitting National Veterans Cemetery to the Pikes Peak Region, which is now completed. Additionally, Doug currently serves as the Chairman of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee. The Strategic Forces Subcommittee has jurisdiction over Department of Defense and Department of Energy policy related to strategic deterrence, strategic stability, nuclear weapons, strategic and nuclear arms control, nonproliferation, nuclear safety, missile defense, and space; Department of Defense programs and accounts related to nuclear weapons, strategic missiles, nuclear command and control systems, Department of Defense intelligence space, space systems and services of the military departments, and intermediate and long-range missile defense systems; and Department of Energy national security programs and accounts.

Doug also serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and its subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands, and the Energy and Mineral Resources subcommittee. The Subcommittee on Federal Lands is responsible for all matters related to the National Park System, U.S. Forests, public lands, and national monuments. The Energy and Mineral Resources subcommittee oversees public resources on public lands, including offshore energy development. Throughout his time in public service, Doug has been a leader on pro-family and small business issues, a strong advocate for our veterans and our military, and a supporter of lower taxes, immigration reform, less government spending, and protection of the Second Amendment.

Doug is married to Jeanie, his wife of 47 years and an accomplished artist and former teacher at the Bemis School of Art in Colorado Springs. The Lamborn's have also raised five extremely successful children. Their four sons were Eagle Scouts and, among them, have served as a doctor, in the military, as an attorney, and as a member of the film industry in Los Angeles.

The Wall Street Journal in a report on July 3, 2024 stated, "The Fed raised rates at the fastest pace in 40 years in 2022 and 2023 to combat inflation that also rose to a four-decade high. They have held their benchmark rate in a range between 5.25% and 5.5% since last July."

Bio | Ambassador Peter Hoekstra

Ambassador Hoekstra represented the United States as Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Dutch Parliament created the American Friendship Group at his urging.

He continues to aggressively and effectively promote United States foreign policy goals and objectives. Pete served in the United States Congress for 18 years, representing Michigan’s 2nd Congressional District from 1993 to 2011.

Prior to his service in the U.S. Congress, Pete had a successful career at Herman Miller, Inc. of Zeeland, Michigan—a company frequently cited as one of the most admired in America and one of the best places to work. Over his 15 year career at Herman Miller, Pete worked in a variety of positions rising through the ranks to become the Vice President of Marketing.

In 1994, former Gov. John Engler appointed Saad to the Michigan Court of Appeals, a role he held for 23 years, including a term as Chief Judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals. During his tenure, Judge Saad served on the Governor's Task Force for Abused Children, and he also served as the Chair of the appellate court's Education Committee.

Judge Saad was nominated to the federal district court by President George H.W. Bush and to the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Court by President George W. Bush. Judge Saad retired from the appellate court in 2017.

Victor Davis Hanson is the Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution; his focus is classics and military history.

Hanson was a National Endowment for the Humanities fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences, Stanford, California (1992–93), a visiting professor of classics at Stanford University (1991–92), the annual Wayne and Marcia Buske Distinguished Visiting Fellow in History at Hillsdale College (2004–), the Visiting Shifron Professor of Military History at the US Naval Academy (2002–3),and the William Simon Visiting Professor of Public Policy at Pepperdine University (2010).

In 1991 he was awarded an American Philological Association Excellence in Teaching Award. He received the Eric Breindel Award for Excellence in Opinion Journalism (2002), presented the Manhattan's Institute's Wriston Lecture (2004), and was awarded the National Humanities Medal (2007) and the Bradley Prize (2008).

Hanson is the author of hundreds of articles, book reviews, and newspaper editorials on Greek, agrarian, and military history and essays on contemporary culture. He has written or edited twenty-four books, the latest of which is The Case for Trump (Basic Books, 2019). His other books include The Second World Wars (Basic Books, 2017); The Savior Generals: How Five Great Commanders Saved Wars That Were Lost - from Ancient Greece to Iraq (Bloomsbury 2013); The End of Sparta (Bloomsbury, 2011); The Father of Us All: War and History, Ancient and Modern (Bloomsbury, 2010); Makers of Ancient Strategy: From the Persian Wars to the Fall of Rome (ed.) Report: Hanke’s 2021 Misery Index: Who’s Miserable and Who’s Happy?

Hanke’s Annual Misery Index (HAMI). What is it — and how should we conceive of man’s well-being? The human condition lies on a vast spectrum between “miserable” and “happy.” In the economic sphere, misery tends to flow from high inflation, steep borrowing costs, and unemployment. The surefire way to mitigate that misery is through economic growth. Comparing countries’ metrics can tell us a lot about where in the world people are sad or happy. HAMI gives us the answers. My version of the misery index is the sum of the year-end unemployment, inflation, and bank-lending rates, minus the annual percentage change in real GDP per capita. Higher readings on the first three elements are “bad” and make people more miserable. These “bads” are offset by a “good” (real GDP per capita growth), which is subtracted from the sum of the bads to yield a HAMI score.

Bio: Dr. Steve H. Hanke

Steve H. Hanke is a professor of applied economics and founder and codirector of the Institute for Applied Economics, Global Health, and the Study of Business Enterprise at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Dr. Steve Hanke served as special counselor to the Center for Financial Stability in New York. Hanke is also a contributing editor at Central Banking in London and a contributor at National Review. In addition, Hanke is a member of the Charter Council of the Society for Economic Measurement and of the Euromoney Country Risk’s Experts Panel.

In the past, Hanke taught economics at the Colorado School of Mines and at the University of California, Berkeley. He served as a member of the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers in Maryland in 1976– 77, as a senior economist on President Reagan’s Council of Economic Advisers in 1981–82, and as a senior adviser to the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress in 1984–88. Hanke served as a state counselor to both the Republic of Lithuania in 1994–96 and the Republic of Montenegro in 1999–2003. He was also an adviser to the presidents of Bulgaria in 1997–2002, Venezuela in 1995–96, and Indonesia in 1998. He played an important role in establishing new currency regimes in Argentina, Estonia, Bulgaria, Bosnia‐Herzegovina, Ecuador, Lithuania, and Montenegro. Hanke has also held senior appointments in the governments of many other countries, including Albania, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, and Yugoslavia.

Hanke has been awarded honorary doctorate degrees by the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (2003), the Free University of Tbilisi (2010), Istanbul Kültür University (2012), the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2013), Varna Free University (2015), the Universität Liechtenstein (2017), and the D.A. Tsenov Academy of Economics (2018) in recognition of his scholarship on exchange‐rate regimes. He is a distinguished associate of the International Atlantic Economic Society, a distinguished professor at the Universitas Pelita Harapan in Jakarta, Indonesia, a professor asociado (the highest honor awarded to international experts of acknowledged competence) at the Universidad del Azuay in Cuenca, Ecuador, and a profesor visitante at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (the UPC’s highest academic honor).

In 1998, he was named one of the 25 most influential people in the world by World Trade Magazine. In 2020, Hanke was named a Knight of the Order of the Flag.

Hanke is a well‐known currency and commodity trader. Currently, he serves as chairman of the Supervisory Board of Advanced Metallurgical Group N.V. in Amsterdam and chairman emeritus of the Friedberg Mercantile Group Inc. in Toronto. During the 1990s, he served as president of Toronto Trust Argentina in Buenos Aires, the world’s best‐performing emerging market mutual fund in 1995.

Hanke’s most recent books are Currency Boards: Volume 1. Theory and Policy (2020), Currency Boards: Volume 2. Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee put investment firm Morningstar on notice and stated that it violated the state’s anti-BDS law.

“As Treasurer, it is my duty to ensure that Arizona does not do business with companies that are attempting to undermine Israel’s economy and violate Arizona’s anti-BDS law,” said Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee. “Morningstar’s ESG rating subsidiary, Sustainalytics, appears to violate Arizona law by negatively impacting ratings of companies doing business in Israel. I continue to strongly oppose the use of woke ESG ratings in order to keep politics out of Arizonan’s livelihoods and retirement accounts.”

In Treasurer Yee’s letter to Kunal Kapoor, CEO of Morningstar Inc., she informed Kapoor that the company had 30 days within receipt of her letter sent on August 18, 2022, to provide written certification explaining how Morningstar’s usage of ESG ratings does not violate Arizona’s anti-BDS law. Further, Treasurer Yee required that Morningstar must provide a written averment that they will not engage in any future boycott activities against Israel.

“As Arizona’s Chief Banking and Investment Officer, I stand with Israel, and I will not allow taxpayer dollars to become victim to the woke political gamesmanship of ESG ratings. ESG ratings are a political scorecard, not a financial scorecard,” said Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee. “I will not allow companies to promote policies that are antisemitic and discriminatory efforts against Israel, which is America's longtime friend and ally, and a significant trade partner with Arizona.”

Treasurer Kimberly and Arizona's state government have stood in support of Israel's sovereignty and thwarted efforts of American companies working to boycott Israel.

Last year in September 2021, Treasurer Yee withdrew $143 million of Arizona's public funds from Unilever, the parent company of Ben and Jerry's over the ice cream firm’s decision to cease sales in Judea and Samaria also known as the West Bank, and east Jerusalem.

A published report stated — "Arizona will not do business with companies that are attempting to undermine Israel’s economy and blatantly disregarding Arizona’s law," said Treasurer Kimberly Yee.

Kimberly Yee is the State Treasurer of Arizona. She is Arizona's chief banking and investment officer and oversees the cash management of Arizona's $53 billion state budget and payments to agencies, local governments and schools. Upon taking office in January 2019, assets under management were at $15.4 billion. Today, assets under management stand at over $30.2 billion, an increase of 96 percent in 42 months.

The Arizona Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund has also hit historic record highs increasing by $1.9 billion in value under Treasurer Yee's administration as of June 30, 2022. Voluntary deposits into the Local Government Investment Pool have also increased by 75.4 percent under Treasurer Yee's leadership, reaching a balance of $5.54 billion in total assets as of June 30, 2022. Treasurer Yee led the effort to pass a state law requiring students to have financial education in high school before graduation, and was the first State Treasurer to have visited all 15 counties in Arizona during the first year of her administration.

Treasurer Yee is the Chairman of the Arizona Board of Investment and State Loan Commission and is a member of the State Land Selection Board. She also serves as Chairman of the Financial Literacy Task Force, Arizona's first-ever statewide body dedicated to advancing personal money management and financial awareness for students, senior citizens, military families and vulnerable populations.

Kimberly served as Senate Majority Leader and became the second woman elected to this position in Arizona’s history, following U.S. Justice Sandra Day O’Connor who served the position in 1973, forty-four years earlier.

Arizona and the Arizona Treasurer’s Office was the first state to divest state funds from Ben & Jerry’s due to their Israeli settlement boycott in Judea and Samaria last September. On September 7, 2021, Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee's divested $143 million of public funds from Unilever PLC, Ben and Jerry's parent company.

Treasurer Kimberly Yee provides the latest update on Ben & Jerry’s and the actions taken by its parent company Unilever.

"As Arizona Treasurer, I've divested all state funds from Ben & Jerry's for boycotting Israel," Yee tweeted. "Israel is and will continue to be a major trade partner of AZ. #IStandWithIsrael and I will not allow taxpayer dollars to go towards anti-Semitic, discriminatory efforts against Israel."

"We have a compelling government interest, when acting as participants in the financial services market on behalf of our respective states, to select financial institutions that are not engaged in tactics to harm the very people whose money they are handling. Further, we have the responsibility, as fiduciaries and stewards of more than $600 billion, to ensure that our financial service providers are free from harmful conflicts of interest that could jeopardize state funds. Any financial institution that has adopted policies aimed at diminishing a large portion of our states’ revenue has a major conflict of interest against holding, maintaining, or managing those funds."

WSJ: Cancel Milton Friedman, and Inflation Is What You Get — By Steve H. Hanke and John Greenwood | June 5, 2022
The word ‘money’ doesn’t even appear in President Biden’s plan to whip inflation.

The lead paragraph of President Biden’s op-ed “My Plan for Fighting Inflation” (May 31) asserts that the global economy faces an inflation problem exacerbated by Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine, high oil prices and supply-chain problems. This line of argument shows why the president’s team and the experts at the Federal Reserve were unable to anticipate the inflation conundrum that their economic missteps have forced us into. It also shows why the president’s plan will likely fail to allow us to exit inflation with a smooth landing.

We don’t have a global inflation problem. Inflations are always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon spawned by the creation of excess money by local central banks. China, Japan and Switzerland also face elevated oil prices, supply-chain problems and fallout from the war in Ukraine, but their annual inflation rates are 2.1%, 2.5% and 2.5%, respectively. They have avoided the ravages of inflation because their central banks haven’t produced excessive quantities of money.

Adherence to the tenets of monetarism is nowhere to be found in the Biden White House or the Fed. Chairman Jerome Powell has stressed that we had to “unlearn” monetarism. It looks like Mr. Biden was an attentive student. The word “money” doesn’t even appear in his plan to whip inflation. As he said in 2020, “Milton Friedman isn’t running the show anymore.” As long as Friedman and monetarism remain canceled, the White House and the Fed will be grasping for straws.

Governor Phil Bryant (2012-2020) joins America's Roundtable Radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy for a conversation on Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky addressing a joint meeting of the House and Senate to press his case for more aid to Ukraine.

According to Reuters: "Over 2 million refugees have entered Poland from Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on Feb. 24, the Polish border guard said on Friday." Estimates from Europe suggest that the numbers will rise to more than 5 million Ukrainians fleeing their homes in the coming weeks.

The program features America's state legislatures and governors around the nation who are condemning Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Through a principled endeavor, both the Mississippi House of Representatives and Senate passed resolutions barring any business between state entities and Russia.

Governor Bryant served two terms as Mississippi’s 64th governor from 2012 to January 2020 and served as Mississippi’s lieutenant governor, as state auditor, and as a legislator in the Mississippi House of Representatives. Phil Bryant is a founding member of Bryant Songy Snell Global Partners where he provides strategic advice and counsel and business development services to some of the world’s largest industry leaders. While serving as Mississippi’s chief executive officer, Governor Bryant largely centered his efforts on creating new economic opportunities, among other things. Under Governor Bryant’s leadership Mississippi saw its lowest-ever unemployment rate, its lowest-ever high school dropout rate, its lowest-ever teen pregnancy rate, its highest-ever number of jobs, its highest-ever number of graduating physicians, its highest-ever K-12 reading and math improvement scores, and its highest-ever high school graduation rate.

Governor Bryant’s dedicated focus on economic development yielded more than $8 billion in private sector investment in Mississippi as well as the largest economic project in state history—a landmark agreement with Continental Tire to build a major manufacturing facility in central Mississippi and create more than 2,500 new jobs.

Governor Bryant dovetailed public education reforms with a strong focus on workforce training programs and job creation. His administration worked to improve career-technical training programs and their delivery through Mississippi’s top-rated community and junior college system, pairing program offerings with local workforce opportunities and collaborating with the K-12 system to strengthen high school vocational programs.

He worked closely with the University of Mississippi Medical Center to build a new School of Medicine and to increase the number of graduating physicians each year; to position Mississippi as a national leader in telemedicine services and technology; and to create a state-of-the-art residential facility to care for medically fragile children.

Governor Bryant served as chairman of the Education Commission of the States; chairman of the Southern States Energy Board; chairman of Jobs for America’s Graduates; and chairman of the Royal Commonwealth Society of the United States.

Rainer Saks, a former chief of the Estonian foreign intelligence and a former chief of staff of the Estonian foreign ministry, said the Russian leadership thinks the Western countries are weak and therefore Russia hopes it will end Ukraine’s Western integration.

“The way Russia operates towards Ukraine comes from the fact that it regards the Western reactions essentially non-existent,” Saks said on a radio programme called “Vikerhommik”. “Russia thinks it can act and it regards the Western countries as weak. And the question is not whether the Western states actually are weak, the question is how Russia sees them.”

He said it was a paradox of a historical window that Russia’s leadership has defined the current time window as the ending of Ukraine’s integration towards the West. “And I’m not talking about stopping it, but finishing. Ending forever. That’s why this is happening.” Saks also noted on the Estonian Public Broadcasting radio programme that if the Western countries impose sanctions on Russia, then the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, is prepared to strategically suffer through them.

Mr. Rainer Saks served as the Estonian Secretary of State from 2015-2020. From 1999 to 2001, Saks worked as an adviser to the foreign minister. From 2001 through 2006 he served as the deputy coordination director at the coordination unit of the Government Office. From 2006 to 2011 Saks headed the Office of the President, while simultaneously heading the council of the International Center for Defense and Security (from 2007-2011). From 2011 Rainer Saks held the office of the Director General of the Information Board. Mr. Saks is a member of the Management Board at CybExer Technologies, a NATO-awarded Estonian cybersecurity company.

The President and Vice President’s misguided insistence on the ignorant, false claim that America is somehow stuck in the 1960s is disgusting, dangerous, and an affront to all the sacrifices and great successes this country’s brave Civil Rights pioneers made. In fact, it is grotesquely offensive to compare segregated lunch counters, attack dogs, firehoses, and Bull Connor, to showing a photo ID to vote. Simply proving you are who you say you are to cast a ballot is fundamental to election security. Period. Eighty-five percent of Americans agree and want photo identification requirements for voters.

President Biden and Vice President Harris claim they want to defend the Constitution but then ignore our founding document’s clear language that gives state legislatures the rights and responsibilities to decide how they conduct elections. Do you really think the same inept federal government that left Americans stranded in Afghanistan, completely botched the COVID response, cannot secure our border, and raised the costs of food and gas is the same government that should run your elections? This Administration’s insulting publicity stunt seeks to divide this nation on racial lines when what we need is leadership that respects the human dignity of all. The Freedom to Cheat Act is a plague on this country and no amount Biden and Harris’ blatant lies, half-truths and hyperbole will change that."

Ken Blackwell served as the mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, and was also elected to serve as the Treasurer and Secretary of State for the State of Ohio. Blackwell also currently serves as a Senior Fellow for Human Rights and Constitutional Governance at the Family Research Council, Chairman of America First Policy Institute’s (AFPI) Center for Election Integrity and Executive Advisory Board Member of International Leaders Summit.

He serves on the Board of Directors for the Near East News Agency, and the Institute for Pension Fund Integrity. Blackwell was formerly the United States Ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.

After receiving both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Xavier University, Blackwell became a professor there for many years. He enjoys Hermeneutics, hunting, and traveling the world with his wife of 53 years.

Natasha Srdoc's Commentary — Why America's taxpayers should oppose this government surveilance of personal bank accounts impacting all Americans and requiring additional reporting procedures.

Natasha Srdoc, a former international banker, economist and contributor to The Economist Intelligence Unit presents a principled solution in addressing the challenges of tax evasion by focusing on tax havens in Liechtenstein and other places around the world and advances the principled flat tax policy with its built-in anti-corruption mechanism which removes loopholes, broadens the tax base and increases tax revenues.

“If this were truly about finding the tax gap for the top earners, the reporting threshold would be in the hundreds of thousands, not $600, not $10,000. Farmers and Merchants Bank opposes this proposal because it is definitely overreach by the government and an invasion of privacy. Farmers and Merchants Bank does not currently track this type of information on customers’ accounts. The bank would have to hire additional staff and/or purchase software. The cost would be substantial, making small banks like us even less competitive with the large banks.”

Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey issued the following statement:

“While policymakers are proposing tweaks to Washington’s widely opposed proposal that would require financial institutions to report customer account information to the IRS, no amount of updating will salvage this misguided plan or quell the widespread public backlash it has generated. The proposed tweaks—such as raising the reporting threshold—would benefit hardly any taxpayers, make the policy more difficult to implement, and do nothing to address the proposal’s privacy, due process, and data security concerns.

"An ICBA poll conducted by Morning Consult found 67% of voters oppose the proposal, with 64% saying they do not trust the IRS to monitor their financial information. Further, consumers have sent hundreds of thousands of messages to their members Congress in opposition via banklocally.org/privacy.

“A bipartisan supermajority of Americans and more than 100 organizations representing small businesses clearly oppose the IRS monitoring bank account information, which Congress continues working to advance through a budget reconciliation package that requires only a simple majority to pass.

“The IRS reporting proposal is an invasion of consumers’ privacy, a violation of Americans’ due process, a data security risk amid the agency’s ongoing tax return leak investigation, and a threat to bipartisan efforts to reduce the unbanked population by driving more Americans out of the banking system and toward predatory lenders.

“ICBA, community bankers, and voters across the country will continue opposing this proposal.”

Ellie Cohanim served as U.S. Deputy Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism at the U.S. Department of State. Ms. Cohanim is currently a Visiting Fellow at Independent Women's Forum, and is a renowned figure in the fight against global anti-Semitism. She is an expert on Iran, Israel, the Middle East, the Abraham Accords, and US foreign policy.

She was the State Department’s first Iranian-born Jewish Envoy, and led diplomatic initiatives resulting in historic breakthroughs in the Muslim world including forging groundbreaking partnerships with the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Co-Existence of Bahrain, and with Association Mimouna of Morocco, to combat anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism and Islamophobia; persuading the Global Imams Council (GIC) to adopt the IHRA working definition of anti-Semitism; and removal of anti-Semitic content from textbooks in the MENA region, all as part of the Abraham Accords efforts.

Prior to her appointment to the US State Department, Ms. Cohanim was Senior Vice President and Special Correspondent for the Jewish Broadcasting Service (JBS). Previously, she was an executive at Yeshiva University; The Jewish Theological Seminary; and UJA-Federation of New York.
